Mahuru has worked for Kessels & Associates since July 2008, working full-time since July 2009.  She was employed for her skills as a field biologist and organisation of both large and small-scale surveys.  After graduating in early 2009, Mahuru worked for the Ministry of Fisheries as a marine mammal and seabird observer collecting detailed data on populations and behaviour.  Since then, Mahuru has been involved in several large ecological assessment projects for Kessels & Associates such as environmental impact studies, restoration plans for private landowners, conservation protection and networking concepts, as well as surveying of bush, streams, and avifauna habitats.  She is currently studying part-time to gain a MSc in Freshwater Ecology from the University of Waikato.
